You Resemble Me
“A meditation on identity, inheritance and the making of Europe's first female suicide bomber.”
Two sisters are torn apart by the French foster system. Years later, one of them will be misidentified across the world's front pages as Europe's first female suicide bomber. The film refuses that headline and goes looking for the girl underneath it — through memory, imitation, and the faces she borrowed to survive.
This was my first film experience and the one that formed everything after it. I came in through the writing room and stayed through rehearsal shoots, production and the archive: cross-referencing press records, court material, family footage and testimony to keep the fiction anchored in what actually happened.
It premiered at the Venice Film Festival and travelled from Cairo to Marrakech, executive produced by Spike Lee, Riz Ahmed and Alma Har'el.
